BUSINESS owners operating in Cheras Jaya Industrial Park, Kajang are sick and tired over the disruption of water supply to their factories that has been going on for two years.
An owner who only wanted to be known as Woon said the disruption was affecting his businesses.
“Water supply is crucial to our operations. So far we have recorded a 60% decline in production due to the disruptions.
“We urge the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) to work closely with Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) to tackle this on-going issue,” he said.
Kajang municipal councillor Eddie Ng said he had received complaints from the business owners and had been attending to them.
“According to Syabas the cause of the disruption are the burst-prone pipes along KM4 that are more than 20 years old.
“Neither Syabas or SPAN could give a definite answer to solve the problem.
“We hope the agencies will see this as a serious problem as many of the business owners are considering moving out if the situation continues,” said Ng.
Ng added that there are 300 factories in the area and Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching said SPAN needed to give priority to this issue.
“There should not be a problem replacing the pipes with more durable ones as an allocation has been made for such purposes,” she said.
