24/12, Kajang - The water supplies pipelines in Kampong Baru Batu 9, Cheras was last replaced about 40 years ago. The villagers’ long wait for it to be replaced again will end on 2012 pertaining to the final approval from Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN).
Majlis Perbandaran Kajang Councilor Eddie Ng Tien Chee said in a press statement that he received an written reply from SYABAS on 15th December 2010 informing that the Asbestos Cement pipes in the village will be replaced after SPAN approved the project. This is following the approval for friendly loan of RM 170 million from the Federal Government. Following the confirmation from SYABAS after one year’s communication, Ng has also written to SPAN on 17th December 2010 urging to expedite the project rather than two years later.
In order to make sure the tap water are safe for consumption, Ng will send some water samples to lab for testing. “I want to make sure the tap water are safe for the villagers to consume. If the report is positive, I hope the project can be expedite but if it is negative, we want the replacement to be done in the shortest period.” Ng said.
